FCM's 60th Anniversary

Florida Citrus Mutual is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. Through freezes, hurricanes, trade fights and legislative battles, Mutual has always focused on serving the Florida citrus grower. No doubt Florida citrus growers are going to face huge challenges in the future and Mutual plans to at the forefront for the next 60 years and beyond. Right now the industry is dealing with the spread of citrus canker and citrus greening. Not surprisingly, Florida Citrus Mutual is serving as the point organization as the industry seeks to capture millions of dollars in research funding to combat these threats.

Other important issues include immigration reform and the Farm Bill and as growers would expect, Mutual is using its influence and that of its lobbyist partners to make sure Florida citrus growers are heard in Washington, D.C. on these critical issues.

As part of the 60th celebration Mutual held a birthday party at the 2008 Florida Citrus Industry Annual Conference that drew more than 300 attendees. Fun was had by all as Mutual’s Director of Grower Affairs Rusty Wiygul emceed the event. Mutual staff also put together a video tribute honoring the organization’s past.
