FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Micromite 80WGS Label Now Allows Split Applications
EPA approved split applications to control Asian citrus psyllid and citrus leafminer

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (March 24, 2011)—Chemtura AgroSolutions™, a leading global provider of crop protection solutions and seed enhancements, announced that the Micromite® 80WGS label has been updated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Citrus growers may now apply the full rate of 6.25 oz/A through two 3.125 oz/A sprays to maximize flush coverage and enhance protection from both Asian citrus psyllid and citrus leafminer.

“The increased flexibility of the new label will be very beneficial to citrus growers this year,” says Jim Black, director of marketing, Chemtura AgroSolutions. “With increased restrictions on other insecticides, growers will need tools available throughout the season at different times than they have in the past, and now they will be able to go to Micromite as a solution whenever they need it most.”

Micromite is a broad-spectrum insecticide for control of key fruit and tree pests including citrus rust mites, the citrus root weevil complex, leafminers and Asian citrus psyllid. With a unique mode of action and long residual, Micromite starts controlling pests at the egg stage and lasts through multiple life stages. This greatly decreases the number of insects that reach the harmful adult stage.

The original label allowed growers to use a maximum of 18.75 oz/A of Micromite per year, but it could only be applied at a rate of 6.25 oz/A, meaning the grower could make three applications during the year. According to the revised label allowing split applications, growers can make as many as six sprays, still with the same maximum yearly usage. However, there must be at least 90 days between each application of 6.25 oz/A. For example, a grower could spray the half rate of 3.125 oz/A this week and then again in two weeks. After three months he could spray another 6.25 oz/A at once or through a split application. He could then make the final application 90 days later either at the full rate or split between two sprays. Ultimately, the new label allows the grower to adapt his spray schedule to pest pressure.

“On top of the flexibility of the new label, Micromite is very easy to include in an IPM program because it is a good tank-mix partner and extremely safe on beneficials,” added Black. “Growers do not have to worry about timing the applications around bloom when the bees are working; they can spray it exactly when the pests are most vulnerable or to coincide with a new flush.”
