Bradenton company to manage new migrant housing

Bradenton Herald – September 28, 2011

ARCADIA – The Diocese of Venice, through Catholic Charities, will be building 53 single-family homes on a 29-acre plot of land in Desoto Country for the benefit of low-income farm-workers in Arcadia.

The housing complex will be called Casa San Juan Bosco, after St. John Bosco, the Catholic priest and educator known for his love and service to the poor and disadvantaged.

Construction is expected to begin Saturday and is expected to take 12 months. The homes will be built by Brooks & Freund LLC of Fort Myers, who was chosen after a bid process. NDC Real Estate Management, Inc. of Bradenton has been hired to manage the property.

There will be a 1,600-square-foot community center, which will include a computer lab as well as offices for maintenance personnel and on-site managers.

Funding was secured through the Florida Housing Finance Corp. and the United States Department of Agriculture. Forty-four of the units will be designated as eligible for rental assistance through the USDA.
