Tropicana names SMR top grower

Tropicana Products Inc. of Bradenton recently named SMR Farms as one of the company’s 2009-2010 Growers of the Year. This is the second time SMR Farms has received that designation in as many years.

“It is certainly an honor to receive this designation from an outstanding organization like Tropicana,” said Mac Carraway, president of SMR Farms. “Our Production Manager, Steve John, and his crew have done an amazing job this year, especially coming out of last year’s record cold weather and a rough start this year.”

The awards are based on a variety of objective criteria related primarily to fruit quality and growing and harvesting practices. “We have worked with Tropicana for over 20 years and really have a great relationship with them,” said Carraway.

The other recipients for 2009-2010 were Consolidated Citrus (Fort Myers), Sungrown Citrus (Ft. Meade) and Sunny South Packing (Arcadia).
