Grower Wins Award of Distinction

FORT PIERCE – Sherwood “Buddy” Johnson, a Fort Pierce native and third generation citrus grower, was recently recognized by University of Florida officials with an award of distinction. The award was presented on Saturday, Nov. 15, during the TailGATOR ‘08 “Romp in the Swamp” event held in Gainesville.
Mr. Johnson earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agriculture from UF in 1966 and 1968. He and his wife,, Patricia own and operate Sherwood Johnson & Son Grove Management, Buck Hammock Groves and Hilliard Groves. His son and daughter are involved in the family business, as well.
Mr. Johnson serves on the board of directors of Farm Credit of South Florida. He is also president of the Treasure Coast Agriculture Research Foundation and a longtime supporter of the Indian River Research and Education Center.
In 2005, he was inducted into the St. Lucie County Agricultural Hall of Fame.
