Citrus Research and Development COO Leaving for Sun Orchard

Lakeland Ledger – March 8, 2011

Dan Gunter is resigning as chief operating officer for the Citrus Research and Development Foundation in Lake Alfred effective April 8. He is leaving to take the same position with Sun Orchard, an Arizona-based citrus juice processor. Gunter served on the board of directors for the foundation when it was established in May 2009 and became its first COO the following January. The foundation manages a budget of about $14 million, nearly 90 percent of which goes toward research projects aimed primarily at battling the deadly citrus greening virus. Sun Orchard operates juice processing plants in Haines City, Arizona and California. Gunter will work at the Haines City office. He previously served as executive director at the Florida Department of Citrus from 1986 to 1992 and again from 2004 to 2006. The foundation’s board meets Tuesday and could talk about beginning a search to replace Gunter.
