District Nine Board of Directors

John Barben is vice president of Barben Fruit Company Inc. and Robert J. Barben Inc.

Barben has been instrumental to Mutual’s State Political Action Committee over the past several years and is very involved in state politics.

A graduate of the University of Florida, Barben was appointed to the Mutual Board of Directors in 2011 serving District 9.

Steve Johnson of Wauchula is the president of Johnson Harvesting, Inc. and vice president of Treeair Cattle Co., Inc.

Johnson is a Florida Farm Bureau State Director, Board member of the Hardee County Chamber of Commerce and member of First Baptist Church.

Johnson joined the Mutual Board of Directors in 2010 serving District 9. He has a BS in agricultural operations management from the University of Florida.

John Smoak, III is president of Lake Placid’s Smoak Groves, Inc.

Smoak is a member of the Peace River Valley Citrus Growers Association, Farm Bureau, a past president of the Highlands County Citrus Growers Association, and a current Director on the Citrus World, Inc. Board. During his time at the University of Florida Smoak was active in the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He was also a member of the Wedgeworth Leadership Institute’s Class Four in 2001.

First elected to the Mutual Board of Directors in 2006, Smoak serves District 9. He has a BS from the University of Florida.
