Florida Agricultural Statistics Services

The Florida Agricultural Statistics Service (FASS) is the main agricultural data-gathering agency in Florida with the purpose of collecting, compiling and providing current statistics. A primary goal of FASS is to provide farmers, ranchers and other producers of agricultural commodities with unbiased and reliable information to assist them in making production and marketing decisions.

Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, Division of Plant Industry

The Division of Plant Industry works to detect, intercept and control plant and honeybee pests that threaten Florida’s native plant resources, agricultural, and horticultural industries. Division efforts concentrate on the exclusion of exotic pests and the prevention of their spread through the regulation of plant and honeybee movement and through extensive survey programs designed for the early detection of new pests to mitigate the need for control activities.

Florida Department of Citrus

The Florida Citrus Commission/Department of Citrus is an executive agency of state government established in 1935 by an act of the Florida Legislature. The Department’s purpose is to protect and enhance the quality and reputation of Florida citrus fruit and processed citrus products in both domestic and foreign markets. It also acts to “protect the health and welfare and stabilize and protect the citrus industry of the state,” which in turn helps to promote the general welfare and social and political economy of the state.

Citrus Research and Education Center

The University of Florida/IFAS Citrus Research and Education Center is the oldest and largest off-campus experiment station. More than 50 faculty scientists work to meet the developmental needs of the Florida citrus industry through research, teaching and extension programs. CREC scientists interact closely with the citrus industry to address issues in horticulture, pests and diseases, and packinghouse and processing technology. The CREC is also home to the scientific research staff of the Florida Department of Citrus.

Citrus Research and Development Foundation

The Citrus Research and Development Foundation is a non-profit corporation organized under Florida State laws as a Direct Service Organization of the University of Florida. The Mission of the Foundation is to “Advance disease and production research and product development activities to insure the survival and competitiveness of Florida’s citrus growers through innovation.” The organization is headed by a 13-member Board of Directors that includes individuals from industry, academia and government. The COO handles the day-to-day management of business affairs, and Program Manager oversees the research portfolio.
